Barcelona forward and Chelsea transfer target Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has issued a public statement on Instagram addressing reports that he was the victim of an assault last week.
Reports emerged that the Gabonese forward had been threatened alongside his wife to open up a safe and hand over jewellery and valuable objects at their home. The striker was also harmed in the incident. Meanwhile, he has been the centre of immense transfer speculation, with Thomas Tuchel looking to sign the player this summer.
With less than two days left of the window, Aubameyang has agreed personal terms with Chelsea and football.london understands Chelsea are remaining confident of agreeing a deal with the Spanish club for Aubameyang, though the fee and structure of a deal are still being worked on.
There have also been suggestions that a jaw injury sustained by Aubameyang during the incident could keep him out of action for a couple of weeks if he was to sign. The 33-year-old has addressed this and the incident itself in a revealing Instagram post that reads:
“Hey guys, thanks a lot for all the messages. On Sunday night, some violent cowards broke into our home and threatened my family and my children just to steal some stuff. They injured my jaw, but I will recover in no time, and thank God no one else was physically harmed. The feeling that we are no lo longer safe in our own house is hard to understand and describe, but as a family, we will overcome this and stand stronger than ever. Thanks for all the support, it really means a lot to us. Auba.”
At the same time as Aubameyang’s heartbreaking statement, there was also a transfer breakthrough, with Fabrizio Romano tweeting, “The two clubs are in direct contact today as they want to reach an agreement in the next hours — been told that Marcos Alonso is again discussed as part of the deal. Chelsea have made a new proposal, plus Alonso. Up to Barça now.”
