Afeez Agoro Oladimeji was a Nigerian citizen who was previously known as the country’s tallest man. At 2.25 metres (7 ft 5 in), he was shorter than Abiodun Adegoke, Nigeria’s tallest man, who stands at 2.41 metres (7 ft 11 in).
Early Life
Afeez Agoro (13 December 1975 – 14 June 2023) was born in the city of Sabo Yaba, Lagos State as the last of three children for his mother who was the second wife of his late father.
Afeez relocated to Akoka Yaba with his family, where he grew up and received his education at St. Finbarr’s College, Yaba. Afeez earned his regular National Diploma from the University of Lagos and went on to earn his Higher National Diploma from the Lagos State Polytechnic.
Agoro had normal growth until he suffered an illness at the age of nineteen and was diagnosed with Acromegaly, also known as gigantism, which caused him to grow vertically at an extremely high rate. Agoro tried unsuccessfully to cure the disease and stood at 7’5″, making him one of Africa’s tallest persons.
Education
He attended Lagos State University in 1997, where he earned his Ordinary National Diploma and Higher National Diploma in Town and Regional Planning.
He then earned a degree in Computer Science from the University of Lagos. After graduating in 2003, Agoro enrolled in the mandatory one-year National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme in Kolokuma Local Government Area, Bayelsa State, Nigeria.
Career
Afeez Agoro completed his mandatory one-year National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme in Kolokuma Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, Nigeria, after graduating from the Lagos State Polytechnic in 2003.
Afeez Agoro has been in films, and in August 2018, I Am Agoro, a reality TV show based on his life and what it’s like to live as Nigeria’s tallest man, premiered exclusively on Linda Ikeji TV (LITV).
Personal Life
He had Love Life Challenges, which made finding a life mate difficult. The Nigerian giant stated that his height scares many females away, which gave him pause over time.
Because of his height, most women he has had the guts to speak with do not feel at ease with him. But that is no longer an issue because he has a girlfriend who accepts him for who he is.
According to Afeez, when the lady approached him and expressed her want to be his buddy, he promptly proposed to her.
Media Controversies
Admittedly, living as the tallest man comes with its advantages and disadvantages. Thus, the Nigerian tallest man is not an exception to this as he has his fair share of life’s challenges.
Health Challenges:
Afeez suffers from rheumatism. This forces him to exercise daily to alleviate the strain on his leg. He travels on commercial motorcycles since he cannot fit into a business car or bus. He occasionally takes Uber, which requires the front seat to be comfortably modified for him to sit in and extend his legs.
Size Challenges:
Agoro, despite his tall stature, finds it difficult to buy shoes or garments in his size everywhere in the market. He claims that his shoes are usually imported from the United States because he wears a shoe size 53, which is rarely seen in Lagos markets. He buys materials for his garments at the market and then takes them to his particular tailor, who sews them properly to his size. Agoro also has difficulty finding a suitable and comfortable bed to sleep on while he is away from home because he utilizes a 4 by 8 size bed, which is rarely seen in a typical home.
Death
Afeez Agoro, dubbed “Nigeria’s Tallest Man,” has died. The entertainer’s death was confirmed to Daily Trust in a phone chat with a female relative who did not want her identity publicized. When queried about Agoro in an emotional tone, the lady simply sobbed, “It is true.” He’s no longer there. He is no longer alive. Please give me a callback.” After then, she hung up the phone.
Agoro died on Wednesday evening in a Lagos hospital following a lengthy struggle with Acromegaly, often known as gigantism.
It was discovered that he had normal growth until the age of nineteen when he suffered an illness and was taken to a hospital, where he was diagnosed with Acromegaly, also known as gigantism, which caused him to grow vertically at an extremely quick rate. Agoro tried unsuccessfully to cure the disease and stood at 7’5″, making him one of Africa’s tallest persons.
