Darwin Núñez, currently at 24, was born in Artigas, Uruguay. He was raised in a humble family, with his father Bibiano Núñez working as a builder and his mother Silvia Ribeiro earning a living as a hawker of milk bottles.

Núñez’s professional career began when he made his debut for Peñarol’s first team in the Primera División on November 22, 2017.
He continued to showcase his skills and scored his first professional goal on October 13, 2018, in a match against Fénix.
In August 2019, Núñez made a move to Spanish Segunda División club Almería for a record fee. He made a significant impact at Almería, finishing the season as the league’s joint-fourth top scorer with 16 goals.
In September 2020, Núñez signed with Portuguese club Benfica for a club-record fee of €24 million. He quickly adapted to the Portuguese league and became a key player for Benfica.
