Chelsea could join the race for Frenkie de Jong with a formal offer in the coming days.
This means Manchester United will have competition in their summer-long transfer pursuit to sign the Barcelona midfielder.
Not only does De Jong want to stay at Barcelona, it sounds like Chelsea are looking to test the Netherlands international’s resolve in addition to interest from Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford.
According to Sport, Chelsea have this morning informed Barcelona that they will try to sign De Jong, with a bid imminent from the Stamford Bridge club.
United already have an agreement in place with Barcelona, but the next step is convincing De Jong, who is waiting patiently for the €17 million he is owed in deferred wages since the coronavirus pandemic.
