Chelsea may have set to make second biggest bid in club history to sign ‘super talented’ player this summer
Leicester City defender Wesley Fofana could reportedly cost as much as £85million amid interest from Chelsea.

According to The Guardian, 21-year-old Fofana is a player in Chelsea’s sights as they look to recruit in defence.

However, it is understood Leicester are in a strong position to keep the player because he signed a five-year deal earlier in 2022.

The report explains the Foxes will demand at least £70million for their centre-back, but the asking price may even be as much as £85million.

If Chelsea go near the £85m price, it would mean making the second biggest transfer bid in the club’s history. Romelu Lukaku cost the Blues a club-record £97.5million last summer, while Kai Havertz is the club’s second most expensive ever (Sky Sports).

Fofana could cost £85million

Described as “super talented” by Paul Merson earlier this year, Fofana is one of the most exciting young centre-halves in European football.

The Frenchman looks the complete package as a defender with his physical attributes, which include raw pace and strength to dominate ground and aerial duels. Also, the Leicester rising star is quality in possession and has a presence on the pitch.

It’s obviously a huge transfer fee that would bring a lot of pressure, but perhaps Chelsea can work some magic to knock that valuation down.

Leicester to Chelsea transfers can be mega hits

Danny Drinkwater aside, Chelsea’s business with Leicester in recent times has proven to be very successful.

The Blues signed N’Golo Kante from the Foxes all the way back in 2016, who will go down as one of the club’s best ever midfielders.

In addition, England and Chelsea left-back Ben Chilwell has become a popular player since arriving at Stamford Bridge from the East Midlands.
