Chelsea fans were left seething after watching their side drop two points to rivals Tottenham and they pointed to an incident before the equaliser that was not picked up
Antonio Conte of Tottenham Hotspur and Thomas Tuchel of Chelsea had to be pulled apart at the end of their sides’ 2-2 draw
Chelsea fans are livid this evening. The Blues dominated the London derby at Stamford Bridge against rivals Tottenham, but only came away with a point after a last-gasp Harry Kane header snatched two points away from them.
The Blues took the lead in the first half through a fantastic volley from new signing Kalidou Koulibaly on his home debut. And Chelsea continued to dictate matters after the break, although they were pegged back when Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg equalised with a shot from outside the box.
That had its controversy though, with Thomas Tuchel livid on the sidelines that what he saw as a foul on Kai Havertz just 34 seconds before Hojbjerg struck. Tuchel and Tottenham boss Antonio Conte had a slanging match on the touchline and both were cautioned.
But rather than let it get to them, Chelsea went straight back on the front foot and Reece James fired home to put them 2-1 up. the Blues looked to be cruising to victory, but in injury-time, Kane nodded home an Ivan Perisic corner.
But once again, that does not tell the story. From a corner before the one Spurs scored from, Cristian Romero was seen tugging the hair of Marc Cucurella in the box. And despite VAR looking at it, no punishment was forthcoming. Had VAR ruled it worthy of a red card, Chelsea would have been given a free-kick and the second corner would not have happened.
Chelsea supporters on social media could not believe it afterwards. It was two points dropped and they laid the blame squarely at Anthony Taylor’s and VAR’s door.
