Marcus Rashford has named Bruno Fernandes and Christian Eriksen as key Manchester United players.
United defeated Arsenal 3-1 at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon and that win put an end to the London club’s perfect record in the league. Antony opened the scoring on his debut and Rashford scored two goals to win the three points for United.
United have now won four consecutive Premier League matches for the first time since April 2021 and momentum is firmly behind Erik ten Hag, who made brave decisions again with his team selection by leaving Casemiro and Cristiano Ronaldo on the bench.
Although Rashford scored two goals, Eriksen was named Man of the Match for his performance and he was praised by his teammate after the final whistle. Rashford reflected on the performance and he lauded the influence of Eriksen and Fernandes.
“It’s a massive game against Arsenal, the fact they’ve had such a good start to the season meant it was a big test for us,” Rashford told Sky Sports. “We showed up, we stood up to the challenge, we can be proud of ourselves.
“Sharp turnaround to the next game but it’s nice to get into the rhythm of things and keep playing games. It was tough, they are a good team, they know the principles, they’re a good position based team. [They] offer a lot of difficult things with players dropping in pockets and some attacking threat, it’s a difficult game and we expected so we had to be up for the challenge.
“We’ve got some excellent passes of the ball and as long as we make three, four, five runs then we’re going to get the ball. We might not get it the first time but we have to keep going for 90 minutes.
“It’s tough, we have to give them possession where they can’t hurt because like I said they’re a good team, we tried to give the ball at the back and let them have time there then press them on the side.
“There’s a couple of times they got through the press, they are electric when they get going. It’s really important to keep going when Bruno, Chris are on the ball. It’s important to make them runs and give them options and we managed to do that.”
