Ismail Mohammed Sherif Professionally known as Black Sherif, Kweku Frimpong (born January 9, 2002) is a Ghanian rapper, singer, and composer who gained notoriety after the release of his solo track “First Sermon” in 2021.
His “Second Sermon” remix, which he did with Burna Boy, was released in July 2021 and quickly became popular on Apple Music, Spotify, and AudioMack.
When ‘Kwaku The Traveller’ was released in March 2022, it immediately shot to the top of the charts, reaching the #1 spot on both the Ghanaian and Nigerian Apple Music Charts.
Early Life & Education
Mr. Frimpong, Kwaku’s father, and Mrs. Ante Marie, his mother, who is of Islamic descent, gave birth to and raised Kwaku in Konongo Zongo. He spent his formative years and his early education at Konongo, a village along the Ashanti area, where he lived with his aunt.
Due to the fact that they both reside abroad, his parent was not present.
He had a significant impact on his life as he grew up in one of the harsh neighborhoods of the Konongo, having to learn about many cultures and different sorts of experiences as a result of growing up as a young child in the ghetto due to the family’s poor situation.
He was raised on Ghanaian and Nigerian Afrobeat music. Younger still, he started singing and freestyling for his friends and neighbors. He occasionally participated in Konongo competitions.
As he aged, his love for music deepened, and his arrogant musical style improved significantly.
He was well-known in his neighborhood and quickly rose to fame at school, entertaining his peers by singing and dancing (he was talented in both of these areas).
Black Sherif attended elementary and secondary school in Konogo, Ashanti Region. He received his secondary school education at Kumasi Academy and completed his secondary studies there in 2019.
He is presently a marketing student at the University of Professional Studies.
Career
He ultimately decided to release his first debut single “Cry For Me” in 2019 after graduating from secondary school, after much rehearsal and spending days in the studio.
He rose to prominence as a well-known artist in Ghana. In 2020, he released another hit tune titled ‘Money,’ which went global and gained him a lot of followers. The song became a hit in Ghana and other African countries.
He posted a freestyle video on his social media page in 2021, and the video was circulated until it reached several Ghanaian big wig artists like Sarkodie.
He was seen hanging out with Sarkodie, CEO of Sarkcess Music, a few days after the freestyle was posted.
He piqued the interest of many of his admirers with a new release in 2021, following the release of ‘First Sermon,’ which carried him across the continent. The song was a huge breakthrough for him, and it was followed up with another single titled ‘Second Sermon’ two months later. Kwaku became a more powerful figure in the industry as his song went viral and was widely listened across all music platforms.
He remixed ‘Second Sermon’ with Burna Boy, a top Nigerian and Grammy winner, and it was published on December 8, 2021.
He released another hit tune, ‘Kwaku The Traveller,’ which was a huge success, reaching number one on the Apple Music Chart in Ghana and Nigeria.
Personal Life
Kwaku is currently [calculate_years datestring=”01/09/2002″] years old and is a popular Ghanaian-based act that frequently visits Lagos Nigeria to promote his music and cooperate with Nigerian artists. He is now under contract with Empire Music.
He is now single and has not mentioned any girl on any of his social media profiles. He is more focused on promoting his music.
He’s friends with Poco Lee, who introduced him to Burna Boy.
Rumor has it that he appears too old for his age, but The Act claims he is 20 years old and celebrates his birthday on January 9th.
