Chelsea: Thomas Tuchel third summer signing of Gaga Slonina from Chicago Fire, now in London Undergoing medical as he set to sign long-term deal as blues player soon

Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Gabriel Slonina is undergoing a medical in order to complete his move to Chelsea.

The goalkeeper is expected to finish the current MLS season with Chicago Fire on loan, reporting back to the Blues in January.

The 18-year-old had been the subject of a transfer war between Chelsea and Real Madrid, with them both keen to secure a potential ‘keeper for the future in the American.

He was originally touted as a signing wanted by the former figures at the helm, with it unclear whether the new ownership would be as keen on investing in the future.

However, Romano has claimed that the deal is almost confirmed, with the youngster currently in London looking to secure his move.

Slonina begins Chelsea medical

He tweeted: “Gabriel Slonina is currently in London, now undergoing medical tests… then will sign long-term deal as new Chelsea player.

“Club statement soon as documents are completed between clubs: $15m deal, add ons included. Slonina will stay @ Chicago on loan until January.”

The deal will give Chelsea fans great confidence that Todd Boehly and co are in the business of the club for the right reasons, with them keen to look past the marquee signings of today and establish the intelligent ones for the future.

With Edouard Mendy looking more than comfortable as the number one for the next few years, the signing looks the perfect one to be able to bring him in to learn off the Senegal international, with the intention for him to follow in his footsteps.

While the deal is certainly a positive for the future, the supporters will now be hoping for one last push this month in the window to sign players for the present, with them still hoping to secure the services of one or two defenders before it slams shut.
