Lil Tay’s past has long been a source of contention among fans, with many believing the pre-teen rapper was not a genuine child, but rather a persona created and molded by internet-fame-hungry parents.
Years of internet fan sleuthing and interviews have revealed that Lil Tay’s mother, Angela Tian, a suburban realtor from Vancouver, used her professional connections to film videos with her in the empty luxury homes that she was supposed to be selling, and that the expensive sports cars seen in many of Tay’s videos allegedly belonged to Tian’s boss and were used without permission.
Lil Tay’s Instagram account posted a strange remark, and it hasn’t been active since June 2018, shortly after she appeared on Good Morning America and a heated custody battle erupted between her parents. All of her earlier posts were deleted and replaced with the words “help me”
In October of that year, an unidentified person claiming to have “worked” with Lil Tay in the past took over her account, sharing photographs and videos with comprehensive captions, many of which were about her father, Christopher Hope.
According to those posts, Lil Tay was abused by her father Hope in 2014, while she was living with him before he relocated to Canada with a new partner. According to her anonymous account holder, Jason, who was subsequently found to be her elder brother, Hope “often slept with different women with Tay in the same bed” and “was naked around Tay” frequently.
In late 2018, Lil Tay’s Instagram account leaked personal documents (including a passport that looked to prove Tay was actually 16), although she and her mother later claimed the account was hacked.
