Mthembeni Ndevu (born September 17 , 1992) is a South African rapper who goes by the stage name Emtee. He is a South African rapper, singer, songwriter, and music producer born in the small town of ‘Matatiele’ but grew up in Rockville, Soweto.
He rose to prominence following the publication of his successful studio work, Avery, in 2015.

Early Life & Education
The [calculate_years datestring=”9/17/1992″]-year-old South African rapper was born in Matatiele and spent his early years in Rockville, Soweto.
Ndevu stated in an interview that he had wanted to be a musician since childhood.
He grew up with this passion and gave his first public performance at nine. This was the first time he performed on stage during his primary school’s talent event.
Mthembeni Ndevu went to Yeoville Primary School and then to one of the local senior schools.
He couldn’t get into a major college in South Africa with a Pass in his Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination, so he decided to focus more on his musical career.
Career
After dropping out of school, he spent his teenage years practicing and writing songs. In 2010, he worked with Maraza, a South African rapper, on the song “In it to Win It.”
He has collaborated with other South African musicians, such as rappers Sjava and Saudi and their producer Ruff, on a song named ‘African Trap Movement,’ a rap trio.
Emtee released his debut solo single, Roll Up, in 2015. The song was well appreciated by fans and gained a lot of airplay and streaming. The song drove him to fame, making him a sought-after South African singer.
He re-released the song ‘Roll Up‘ as ‘Roll Up Re-Up,’ featuring Wizkid and AKA, a South African rapper.
On December 4, 2015, he released his debut album, ‘Avery.’ The record became one of South Africa’s top 10 most-played albums.
Emtee startled his followers in 2019 when he announced on his Facebook page that he was leaving his record label, Ambitiouz Entertainment.
Soon after, he launched his newly formed record label, Emtee Records, under the Africa Trap Movement.
After multiple albums and singles were released, Emtee dropped his fourth studio album, Logan, released on August 9, 2021. The album was nominated for the 2021 South African hip-hop awards.
Personal Life
Emtee is engaged to his long-time girlfriend, Nicole Kendall Chinsamy, and his baby mama. He has previously stated that he would love to make her his wife soon.

Mthembeni is a father of two sons named after his debut albums. His first son, Avery, was born in 2015, and Logan was born in 2018.
