Joey Bada$$ has persevered through a great deal in his life, and he incorporated all of his victories into the music video for his smash hit tune “Devastated.”
On Tuesday (the 9th of August), the leader of Pro Era traveled throughout Brooklyn and Manhattan, offering unique screenings of the video and selling exclusive goods to honor the film. The music video that Shomi Patwary and Badmon co-directed together was released to the public yesterday. Fans were quick to show their appreciation for the new video by flooding Joey’s mentions across various social media platforms.
The video begins with the New York rapper Joey Bada$$ waking up alone in the middle of what appears to be a high school football field in the middle of the night. As the beat drops and the chorus begins, Bada$$ is joined by friends who fill up the surrounding bleachers. After that, he turns the situation into a motivational speech. The second verse features the 21-year-old walking the streets as young people fill the boulevard. The scene then transitions to Joey leading the gang from the rooftop of a building during a turnt up party scene, which is reminiscent of a scene from Project X.
According to what the actor from Mr. Robot told Rolling Stone, “My primary objective was to give people a feel-good, uplifting song, because a lot of the music in my catalog is really introspective or meditative, critical-thinking type of vibes, or really aggressive type of vibes.” As a result, I decided that it was time for a change and that I would present my audience with something fresh, something that they could listen to and feel good about. Something that you could play for the entirety of humanity, including children, elderly people, and everyone in between. Something that each and every person could identify with.”
